8th annual Conference of in Athens, Greece (June 2-4, 2011)


Vagif Mallayev, the Senior Partner of Lexcellence attended the 8th Annual Members' Meeting of network, that took place near Athens.

The Conference was hosted by Cristos Vardikos (Vardikos & Vardikos law firm), under auspices of the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica.


This year, 71 members from 34 different jurisdictions participated actively to conference. International expert speakers delivered very interesting topics, dealing with worldwide ship arrest procedures and opened the debate with the audience.


Following topics were presented on the conference:

- How to secure maritime claims in China by Weidong Cheng – Dacheng Law Offices LLP (China);

- The maritime jurisdiction exercised by the Courts in India by V.K. Ramabhadran (India);

- Ship Arrest in Morocco by Hakim Lahlou – Lahlou, Zioui & Associés (Morocco);

- Latest developments in Italian case-law on ship arrests by Claudio Perella – AS&T (Italy);

- Ship Arrest in UAE by Alessandro Tricoli – Fichte & Co (United Arab Emirates).

Next conference will be hosted by George Chalos in New York, USA in 2012.  




The necessity and legitimacy of the creation of the Ukrainian International Ship Register

This article examines the necessity and legitimacy of the creation of a Ukrainian International Ship Register as an alternative register to the existing State Register of ships. Attention is drawn to determining the definitions registration of ships, as well as the national and international regulation governing the registration of ships, advantages for the state and shipowners. In this regard, the legal analysis was made concerning the legitimacy of such register. In addition, some proposals were made in order to save the genuine link between State and the ship, creating the mentioned register.
